Officials Rush To Fix Pudukottai Govt School After Students Post Viral Video Of Pathetic Conditions Of Campus

Authorities have initiated urgent repair work after students from a government higher secondary school in Gopalapattinam, Pudukottai district, uploaded a social media video exposing the deteriorating condition of their campus.

A group of girl students, all from the minority community, posted a video on Instagram on Friday showing damaged buildings, waterlogged roads, and leaking classrooms. In the clip, the students warned that they would protest on Monday if no action was taken.

In the video, the students said, “With great mental anguish, we wish to say that the roads leading to our school are surrounded by water, the school buildings are damaged, and rainwater seeps into our classrooms. Despite repeatedly informing higher authorities, no relief has been provided so far.”

The school, constructed in 2013, accommodates 302 students from Classes 6 to 12. Locals said the building had become unsafe, toilets were unusable, and stagnant water around the premises had turned into a mosquito-breeding ground.

“Only after the video went viral, officials took steps to clear some of the water on Saturday,” said Alaudeen J, a local resident.

Following the online outrage, Chief Educational Officer K. Shanmugam said that repairs to the bathrooms, approach roads, and other facilities would commence on Monday.
“Based on the collector’s orders, we will mobilise funds through the NSNOP scheme for immediate work and complete the rest within a month. A full renovation, estimated at ₹1 crore, will also be taken up under the scheme,” he added.
