Odisha Train Accident: How 3 Trains Collided Back-To-Back Within Minutes

A devastating train accident occurred in Balasore, Odisha, resulting in the loss of at least 238 lives and leaving over 650 people injured.

The incident occurred when the Coromandel Shalimar Express, a passenger train, derailed and collided with a goods train. Shortly after, the Yesvantpur-Howrah Superfast train crashed into the derailed coaches.

The death toll is expected to rise as many individuals are still believed to be trapped in the wreckage.

The collision occurred during the evening hours when a significant number of passengers were asleep.

The Coromandel Shalimar Express, en route to Chennai, derailed and struck a goods train, causing multiple coaches to overturn.

The Yesvantpur-Howrah Superfast train then collided with the derailed coaches. Both trains were traveling at high speeds during the collisions.

The tragic sequence of events unfolded within minutes, between 6:50 pm and 7:10 pm, according to eyewitnesses and officials.

The Indian Railways have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine any potential operational failures.

Rescue efforts persisted throughout the night as rescue workers and locals worked tirelessly to extract survivors and retrieve bodies from the severely damaged wreckage.

Disturbing visuals from the crash site depicted demolished train coaches with torn openings and twisted railway tracks.
