NTK Chief Blames Victim, Whitewashes Islamist’s Provocative Insult To Lord Shiva, Omits Mention Of Islamist Who Doxxed Sri Lankan Hindu Anojan Sivarasa In Letter Seeking His Release

Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman, who claims to champion Tamil national interests, has finally issued a statement on Sri Lankan Tamil Hindu Anojan Sivarasa’s death sentence in Saudi Arabia, after Tamils and Hindus across the world questioned his silence and demanded that he speak up. But when Seeman finally broke his silence, he chose to lecture Saudi Arabia about Islam’s supposed teachings of love, compassion and forgiveness, while completely omitting the insult to Lord Shiva that triggered the controversy in the first place.

Instead of acknowledging the provocation against a Hindu deity, Seeman portrays Anojan as an immature offender who hurt Muslim sentiments and must be forgiven. His statement makes no mention of the Sri Lankan Muslim woman’s alleged derogatory remarks against Lord Shiva and the Shivalingam, which preceded Anojan’s response. Nor does he call for any accountability for the original provocation.

However, screenshots were circulated by Sri Lankan Muslims and sent to his employer in Saudi Arabia, leading to legal proceedings against him.

The one who is said to have cropped Anojan’s comments was reported to be Azeem Abdul Jabbar who is a hardcore Islamist and inspired by the terrorist reportedly involved in 2019 Easter bombings in Sri Lanka

The timing and content of Seeman’s statement make the omission particularly glaring. Anojan’s punishment was escalated from five years in prison and a fine of three million Saudi riyals under the Cybercrime Act to the death penalty under a different legal framework. Yet Seeman’s appeal repeatedly praises Islam as a “great humanitarian religion” that teaches love, mercy and compassion, while glossing over the fact that Saudi Arabia has sentenced a Hindu Tamil to death in a case arising from a social media religious dispute.

After keeping silent while Tamils demanded his intervention, Seeman has finally spoken — only to foreground the Hindu man’s alleged wrongdoing, erase the insult to Lord Shiva, and appeal to the very religious sentiment invoked by Saudi Arabia’s legal system.

What Seeman Said in his Statement

In his statement, Seeman wrote, “Saudi Arabia, the proud nation that has adopted Islam—a great humanitarian religion that teaches love and compassion—as its state religion, and the land blessed as the birthplace of the revered Prophet Muhammad, must release Sri Lankan Tamil Anojan Sivarasa, who has been sentenced to death, on humanitarian grounds! The news that the Saudi government has sentenced our younger brother, Anojan Sivarasa, a Sri Lankan Tamil who had been working in Saudi Arabia, to death has come as a great shock. Our younger brother Anojan, who left his homeland and travelled to Saudi Arabia in search of economic opportunities, has been declared guilty and subjected to action by the government for discussing religion and religious doctrines critically on social media. Anojan immediately deleted what he had written on social media. He also expressed regret and apologised for his mistake. It is unacceptable to punish Anojan, who regrets his thoughtless conduct, acknowledges his grave mistake and seeks an opportunity to reform himself, having realised that his actions could hurt the feelings of others without understanding the consequences. Imposing the ultimate punishment of death on him is wholly unjustifiable. Even if our younger brother Anojan wrote something objectionable about religion on social media out of childishness, he deleted the posts after realising the consequences of his words and sincerely apologised to the Saudi government and his Muslim brethren. The matter should have ended there.”

“Under these circumstances, imposing the death penalty on him is unacceptable to anyone. In the present circumstances of the twenty-first century, when human rights are widely discussed and debated, imposing death as punishment for allegedly defamatory comments written on the internet would set an extremely dangerous precedent. Saudi Arabia, the proud nation that has adopted Islam—a great humanitarian religion that teaches love, compassion, mercy and kindness—as its state religion, and the birthplace of the revered Prophet Muhammad, who guided people towards righteous conduct, must not commit such a mistake and create a historical blemish. The distinguished rulers of Saudi Arabia must understand that committing a greater wrong in response to a wrong can never constitute justice.”

Seeman Invokes Prophet Muhammad’s Teachings on Mercy

He continued, “The revered Prophet Muhammad taught: ‘Show mercy to those on earth, and the One in heaven will show mercy to you.’ He also taught that by forgiving others, we can receive God’s forgiveness for our own sins. In his final sermon, the revered Prophet Muhammad declared: ‘The best among people is the one from whose tongue and hands other human beings are safe from harm.’ He also taught the world that forgiveness is one of God’s highest attributes and a quality that human beings should cultivate within themselves. It is the expectation and humble appeal of the Tamil national community, spread across the world, that the Saudi government should follow the noble path of love shown by the Prophet Muhammad and extend that forgiveness to our younger brother Anojan.”

“Therefore, on behalf of Naam Tamilar Katchi, I urge humanitarians, democrats and human rights activists across the world to raise their voices against the death sentence imposed on our younger brother Anojan. I also urge countries across the world and the United Nations to engage with the Saudi government and take the necessary measures without delay to secure the release of our younger brother, Anojan Sivarasa, from the death sentence.”

This statement comes weeks after the announcement of the death sentence and after several Tamils and Hindus across the world kept demanding the ‘saviours of Tamil’ speak up.

Seeman’s appeal focuses overwhelmingly on Anojan’s alleged wrongdoing, his apology and the need for him to seek forgiveness. He describes Anojan’s conduct as immature, ignorant and hurtful to the feelings of others. He even argues that the matter should have ended once Anojan deleted his posts and apologised.

Where, then, is the same concern for the Hindu sentiments that were deliberately insulted in the first place? Seeman’s statement does not mention the derogatory comment about Lord Shiva, identify the provocation that preceded Anojan’s response, or call for accountability for the person who made the original remark.

Country Following ‘Religion Of Peace’ Gives Death Sentence – Irony Died Multiple Deaths

What makes the case even more chilling is that Anojan’s reported punishment escalated from five years in prison and a fine of three million Saudi riyals under the Cybercrime Act to the death penalty under a different legal framework. And what does Seeman have to say about this escalation? He repeatedly describes Islam as a “great humanitarian religion” that teaches “love, compassion, mercy and kindness” and invokes Prophet Muhammad’s teachings to appeal for Anojan’s release. Yet, the very Saudi legal system he is appealing to has sentenced a Hindu Tamil to death over a social media controversy involving religious remarks.

Seeman waxes eloquent about the compassion of the “religion of peace” but glosses over the glaring contradiction of a death sentence being imposed in its name. He even portrays Anojan as a thoughtless offender who hurt the feelings of others, while completely omitting the alleged insult to Lord Shiva that triggered the controversy in the first place. His statement is not merely an appeal for mercy; it whitewashes the provocation against a Hindu deity while placing the burden of remorse squarely on the Hindu victim.
