Nikita Tomar’s killers sentenced to life imprisonment by Faridabad district sessions court

Nikita Tomar murder case

On 24 March, the district sessions court in Faridabad convicted Tauseef and his friend Rehan for the murder of 21-year old Nikita Tomar. Today (26 March) the court sentenced them to life imprisonment.

21-year-old Nikita was shot dead in Balabhgarh last year on October 26 by Tauseef, who ― in a case of Love Jihad ―  had been pressuring her to convert to Islam and marry him.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV camera and the video footage was widely shared on social media, with the barbarity and alacrity of the shooter sending shockwaves across the country. The defence had even tried to convince the court that Tauseef was not present at the scene when Nikita was shot and killed.

This case was fast-tracked to prevent a delay in justice being delivered. was not delayed as both these young men will now spend 20 years in prison.

Few months prior to her murder, Tomar had filed a molestation complaint against Tauseef. The family had later dropped the case. Her family had alleged that Tauseef started hounding her again and pressuring her to convert to Islam.

It has been reported that Tauseef is the grandson of Kabir Ahmed, a Congress leader who was elected as an MLA from Haryana’s Nuh constituency in 1975 and from the Tauru constituency in 1982. Also, Tauseef’s late uncle Khurshid Ahmad was a Congress MP of Haryana and was an ex-Cabinet minister of Haryana.

The case attracted a lot of attention because the killer belonged to a very powerful and influential family and it was also a case of Love Jihad. Nikita, who had rebuffed Tauseef’s advances for a long time, was being pressured to convert to Islam which led to her death.
