Seven sites in Srinagar and Anantnag in south Kashmir were raided by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday in connection with a terror funding case involving the distribution of propaganda material by the banned terror organization ISIS.
In connection with the investigation, the NIA has arrested several people, including the chairman of a Darul Uloom (Islamic seminary) known as “Sirajul Uloom.” The NIA team raided Darul Uloom ‘Sirajul Uloom’ in downtown Srinagar and confiscated several documents containing office records as well as a laptop.
Javaid Ahmad Mir, Umar Bhat, Ovais Ahamad, Tanveer Ahmad, and Zeeshan Ameen Malik are five others who have been detained by the NIA and are suspected of having ties to the banned terrorist group ISIS.
According to the NIA, the five arrested have become the face of print editions of the online propaganda magazine “The Voice of Hind (VOH),” which aims to incite Indian Muslims against the government and state. According to them, an organised campaign in cyberspace was begun to carry out its evil plot, which was complemented by on-ground terror funding operations.
The NIA recovered a large number of incriminating documents and digital devices, including mobile phones, tablets, computers, and hard drives, as well as T-shirts with the ISIS logo, during the raids.
NIA officials said that it was a joint operation with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Research & Analysis Wing (RAW). The agency also arrested five youths allegedly for having links with the terror group.
Following the raid in Srinagar, the NIA carried out similar operations in the villages of Pushroo, Sunsooma, and Achabal in South Kashmir.
