NCP supremo Sharad Pawar taken to hospital, scheduled for surgery on March 31

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar has been rushed to a hospital in Mumbai as he reportedly felt unwell. The 80-year-old Pawar is slated to undergo a surgery at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, March 31.

Pawar had earlier undergone surgery for cancer in 2004.

The news of the veteran NCP leader’s illness has been confirmed by NCP spokesperson and Maharashtra minority affairs minister Nawab Malik.

Malik took to Twitter and announced that the doctors at Breach Candy hospital have diagnosed “a problem” in Pawar’s gall bladder.

“Our party president Sharad Pawar saheb was feeling a little uneasy due to a pain in his abdomen last evening and was therefore taken to Breach Candy Hospital for a check-up. Upon diagnosis, it came to light that he has a problem in his gall bladder,” Malik tweeted.

Malik added in another tweet that Pawar was on blood-thinning medication, which is now being stopped due to his current ailment. Pawar is scheduled to undergo an endoscopy and a surgery on March 31, Mailk tweeted. “All his programmes stand cancelled until further notice,” Malik added.

The news comes a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s cryptic statement regarding a meeting between Shah and Pawar which allegedly took place on Saturday. Leaving media persons hanging after he declined to comment when asked on Sunday about the purported meeting with the NCP chief, Shah said, “Everything need not be made public”.
