Mother and daughter in UP get married on the same day under the same roof through Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivaah Yojna

In an interesting incident in Uttar Pradesh, a 53-year-old woman and her 27-year-old daughter tied the knot on the same day in a community wedding ritual that took place. The Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivaah Yojna is a scheme where a large number of couples tie the knot together under the same roof in a ceremony funded by the state.

The woman, Beli Devi, whose husband had died 25 years ago, married her brother-in-law Jagdish (55). Her youngest daughter Indu also got married in the same ceremony, which had 63 other couples.

Beli Devi was married to Harihar. She had three daughters and two sons from him. She lost her husband 25 years ago. Now, as all her children are married and settled with their own families, Beli Devi decided to spend the rest of her life with her brother-in-law Jagdish, the younger brother of her husband but elder to her.

“My two sons and two daughters are already married so with the marriage of my youngest daughter, I decided to marry my brother-in-law. All my children are happy,” Beli Devi was quoted saying in The Times of India. “My mother and uncle took care of us and I am very happy that now they will look after each other,” said Indu.
