In a recent post on social media, a user had shared his interactions with a street hawker from Srirangam in which the hawker bemoaned about the condition of people like him if at all the DMK comes to power in the upcoming Assembly Elections.
The user in his post said that he frequents a street hawker’s shop located on the Srirangam Mambazhachaalai Road daily and buys Kezhvaragu porridge. He went on to say that a a few days back gruff looking man who was never seen in the area before, had stopped next to this shop and got down from his car.
The guy then asked the hawker as to how much he was bribing the local police and the MLA in order to set up shop in that particular area. When the hawker said that he was not paying anything anyone, the man threatened him saying that if he had to continue doing his business during the DMK rule, he had to pay them a bribe of ₹300 daily. He went on to ask if the nearby stall was also owned by him. When the hawker replied affirmatively, he threatened to close the shops down if the DMK office bearer were not paid the ‘mamool’ (bribes) for both the stalls.”
When the hawker opened his mouth in protest saying that he couldn’t afford that because of his limited income, the man went on to threaten him saying that this was the party that snatched the land of a company as big as the Tata Group right from under their nose and that he should pay the bribe somehow to continue his livelihood.
