Michelle Obama takes a silent dig at Trump in her new podcast

Michelle Obama took a silent dig at President Donald Trump on Thursday as she launched her new podcast with her husband, former US President Barack Obama. While introducing him, she described him as ‘a former president who reads and knows history’. This has been seen as a dig aimed at Trump, appeared to deride the White House incumbent’s apparent inability to “read and know history”.

“As a former president who reads and knows history,” said Ms Obama, in an apparent swipe at Mr Trump. “As that person, you understand the arc of progress”. She told listeners: “Let’s just take a moment to pause and think about that. We are moving towards more inclusivity, more openness, more we-ness, it’s not an easy trajectory, it is bumpy and it is uncomfortable, and that’s how change happens.”

The former First Couple discussed the Black Lives Matter protest and the White House’s response to the coronavirus crisis. They also talked about America’s current political discontent amidst the upcoming elections.

Former President Barack Obama addressed the present American youth, and lamented that some were channelling their idealism “outside of governmental structures and outside of politics.” These comments follow Mr Obama’s comments where he said “I don’t want a country in which the president of the United States is actively trying to promote anti-Asian sentiment and thinks it’s funny. I don’t want that. That still shocks and p****s me off.”
