On Saturday, the Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati blamed the Congress for the migrant worker exodus across the country.
She termed the Congress President’s pictures and videos of him interacting with migrant workers as ‘nautanki’ (theatrics).
In a series of tweets, she said “The Congress is the real culprit in the plight of crores of migrant workers in the entire country due to the coronavirus lockdown. Had it provided enough employment opportunities, no worker would have left his home State. There would have been no exodus today”
“it would have been better had the Congress told how many people it had genuinely helped…” she said referring to Rahul Gandhi’s video.
On top of this, the BSP stayed away from participating in the meeting of Opposition leaders called by Congress President Sonia Gandhi in which representatives of 22 parties attended.
Mayawati urged the BJP to not follow the footsteps of Congress. She said “If the BJP government arranges livelihood for those returning and make them self-reliant in their villages, they will not face such a crisis again.”
The Congress called Mayawati a “Twitter Behanji” and “undeclared spokesperson of BJP”.
However, on Sunday, Mayawati hit out at both BJP and Congress saying both should end the blame game and work for the welfare of migrant workers.
She said had the BJP helped the businesses on time, workers would not have faced problems. She also added that had the central informed prior of a nationwide lockdown, the workers would have made their own arrangements.
