K Bairavi, a government school math teacher from Elambalur near Perambalur has won hearts by donating ₹50,000 towards mobile phones for online classes. She handed over a demand draft of ₹50,000 as COVID relief to the Perambalur District Collector Sri Venkata Priya.
Speaking to TNIE, she said, “I offered the mobile phones to the students as their education was getting affected last year. I have been recharging their sim cards even up to this month. I communicate daily with students through smartphones regarding their studies.”
“I was very happy when this district became a coronavirus-free district. But this happiness did not last. This made me very sad. Then my children told me we should help this year as well. But I did not know how to help COVID-19 patients. So I took a demand draft for Rs 50,000 in the name of the collector and gave it to her,” she added.
Last year, she had distributed 16 smartphones to her students and had also recharged them to help them regularly attend online classes. Her generous gesture has helped a lot of students to attend classes regularly.
