Mary Rajasekaran Sexual Harassment Case: Loyola College Fails To Appear Before Women’s Commission

The officials of Loyola College Chennai on Monday failed to appear before the TamilNadu State Commission for Women conducting an inquiry into the Mary Rajasekaran Sexual Harassment case.

Acting on a complaint filed by Mrs Mary Rajasekaran with the TamilNadu State Commission for Women, Chairperson TNSCW Dr Kannegi Packianathan IAS (Retd.), who is conducting the inquiry in Chennai, had asked Fr. Francis Xavier – Rector, Loyola College Chennai to appear before the commission on December 7th. Though Fr. Francis Xavier confirmed his appointment with the commission, it was a no-show and in a bizarre turn of events, the Women’s Commission received a belated letter from Loyola College Chennai on December 8th stating that Fr. Francis Xavier is in quarantine and would be unable to step out.

A source in the TamilNadu State Commission for Women said, “We called the Rector’s office several times on December 7th, They would cut the call every time we said we are calling from the women’s commission office.”

The commission has issued a fresh summons and has fixed December 10th as the date for the Loyola College officials to appear before them. The victim Mrs Mary Rajasekaran was however present.
