An incident took place near Kanyakumari where a wedding broker who had taken the supposed groom’s family to see the girl, was snatched of 23 sovereigns of gold that he had been wearing and was thrown out of a running car.
Kandasamy, 75, is from Panakudi in Nellai district. He is engaged in the business of marriage and land brokerage.
Last week, a group of 3 people had come looking for Kandaswamy in a luxury car. They had called Kandasamy saying that they were seeking a bride for their son and that they had to go to Anjugram in Kanyakumari district to visit a girl’s house for marriage.
Broker Kandasamy had left with them with a gold chain around his neck, a ring on his finger and a bracelet on his hand. They had gone to a house in Anjugram and had visited the girl’s house. They had then left saying that they did not like the girl and would want to see other prospective brides. On the way back to the city, the family had bought food for Kandasamy and had dropped him off at Panakudi.
Similarly, they had contacted Kandasamy again on Thursday and had told him that there was a prospective bride in the Kaavalkinaru village and that they wanted to go and visit them. Kandasamy had then accompanied them to this location.
The groom’s family then made him get in the car and threatened, holding a knife to his neck, asking him to take off his jewelry. Kandasamy yelled for help, following which the family had stabbed him with a knife and snatched the jewellery that he was wearing.
They then pushed him into the bushes from the running car in the nearby Kannupotthai area and fled at lightning speed.
The public who passed by on Friday morning saw the old man lying in a bush and with the help of the Aralvaymozhi police, rushed him to the Asaripallam Hospital for treatment. Police are on high alert to nab the gang who attacked the broker and robbed him of the jewellery.
