Manipur government to pay railway fare for stranded people

Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh said on Wednesday that the State government would pay the ticket fare for people coming back to the state via special trains. He mentioned that his cabinet decided to pay the ticket fare from the government’s coffers for those returning via Shramik special trains.

He also said that the main markets of Manipur like Khwairamban Keithel and the famous women markets – Paona market and Thangal market – would be closed till May 17.

However, local shops and street vendors selling essential items would remain open, he said. He thanked the frontline warriors like doctors, nurses and other health care workers for successfully treating 2 COVID-19 patients and curing them. He also extended his thanks to the people of Manipur for cooperating with the government.

Manipur currently has no COVID-19 cases.
