Qasim, a man who converted from Islam to Hinduism, has reportedly received death threats. Qasim, who married a Hindu woman 8 years ago, said he had received death threats from members of the Muslim community after converting to Hinduism. Following this, Qasim has filed a petition with the police seeking protection. Police have registered a case based on this and said that security has been provided to Qasim’s house in Aligarh.
“My name was Qasim and after I converted, people from Muslim community are threatening to kill me & my family. I need police protection.” he was quoted saying in a report by ANI.
Qasim got married in 2013 to a Hindu woman named Anita Kumari. The two fell in love when Qasim’s father rented a shop from Anita’s father. The married couple has two children, 7-year-old Kasifa and 4-year-old Ayas. The couple got married despite the opposition from the woman’s family. Qasim, who lives in Aligarh, and his family have been receiving threats since then. He says they had not received any kind of affirmation even after informing the district administration about this. His wife, Anita, said he never forced her to convert or forbid her from following Hindu rituals despite him being a Muslim.
Qasim had decided to change his religions to Hinduism eight years after his marriage. He changed his name to Karam Veer Singh after converting to Hinduism at one of the Arya Samaj centers. He tried to convert legally and applied to the magistrate but for several days there was no action. Later, he with the help of the Arya Samaj he successfully completed his transition. He said that he was attracted to Hinduism because of his wife’s rituals and therefore he wanted to convert.
