A man in Karnataka’s Hassan district showed great courage and strength when he bare-handedly strangled a leopard to death after the animal attacked his family.
Rajagopal Naik is a resident of Arasikere taluk in Hassan district, Karnataka. He was on his way home, along with his wife Chandramma and their son Kiran. The family of three were travelling on a motorcycle when, suddenly, a leopard leapt at them from the bushes near the road.
The leopard bit Kiran’s leg and attacked Chadramma. Rajagopal, seeing his family in peril, fought off the leopard with his bare hands. He grabbed the leopard by the neck and began hitting the animal on the head with his elbow. The leopard struggled to break free and even swiped at Rajagopal with its claws, injuring him.
Undaunted, the brave man did not let go of the animal but tightened his hold on the leopard’s neck, choking the beast to death.
Rajagopal and his family were later taken to the nearest hospital for treatment and to get their wounds bandaged. Officials from the forest department arrived at the scene of the incident and took away the carcass of the leopard. The leopard’s body was sent to a veterinary hospital for an autopsy.
