A man was arrested for allegedly cheating more than 200 people after he promised COVID-19 patients to donate plasma for them.
The accused is identified as Sandeep Reddy of Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh and was arrested by the Hyderabad police.
During COVID-19, the demand for plasma has increased.
It is the infusion of blood from COVID-19 recovered patients to infected patients.
The man had planned to take advantage of this increasing demand and browsed the web for people who are looking for plasma donors.
He contacted them individually and posed as a person who is recovered from COVID-19 and requested those in need of blood to send money for transportation.
He has been charged under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and under section 66(d) of IT Act, 2008, at four different police stations, including the Central Crime Station in Hyderabad.
The Police also said that Sandeep, a hardware engineer, began committing thefts when he could not find a job.
Besides he has also fooled people to believe that he has arranged for anti-virus drugs used on COVID-19 patients.
