Madras HC orders HR&CE to enquire into the sale of assets of Mariamman temple in Krishnagiri

The Madras High Court has ordered the HR&CE department to conducted a extensive investigation into the sale of assets and properties of the Mariamman Temple in the Krishnagiri district.

A petition submitted by Radhakrishnan from Salem said that the Mariamman Temple is situated in Avathanapatti, Krishnagiri district. He has also requested in the petition that the temple’s Kumbabhishekam (consecration) takes place on time, that all essentials required for the temple are provided and that action be taken to protect the assets and properties of the temple. Another petitioner, Thirupathi Gounder had also requested that elections be conducted for temple’s board of trustees, regularly.

The judge who heard the case, R Suresh Kumar, ordered the HR&CE department to file a report regarding the same. In accordance, the temple’s executive officer filed a report. The judge’s order, after going through the report, has revealed shocking information, i.e., there is third party influence on the immovable assets of the temple.

There have also been two sales transactions in 2001 and 2007, which shows that the temple property has actually been eaten. The temple’s board of trustees and the HR&CE have taken no efforts to reclaim these assets. Only on asking to file a report, the reality has been spelled out. How the temple’s consecration took place without the approval of the temple administration, is also a matter of question. The HR&CE should appoint a responsible officer to look into the case. The case has been adjourned to January 20th, 2022.
