Madras HC directs TN Govt. to ensure common crematoriums for all castes and communities

Madras High Court Demands Answers From TN Govt Over Corruption In State Offices

In a latest hearing, the Madras High Court has directed the government to ensure common burial/crematorium grounds, throughout the state, for members of all castes. Kalaiselvi and Rajaram had submitted a writ petition to the Kallakurichi district collector asking for a separate and permanent crematorium for the Arunthathiyar community. Dismissing the writ, Justice R Mahadevan made  a suggestion that a common burial ground should be ensured for all castes and communities.

In addition, the Judge suggested that all boards put up in cremation ground of every village/district/block, that denotes that the ground can only be used by members of that community, should be removed. And members of all castes and communities should be able to use crematoriums in entirety without any kind of discrimination.

Apart from this, the judge also suggested that every village/district construct a burial or cremation ground, which open to all caste and communities under one religion, by ensuring that it does not impinge on the fundamental right of any individual under Article 25 of the Constitution.
