The Chennai High Court has directed the State government to file an inquiry and a supplementary report on the sudden disappearance of a Peacock statue at the Mylapore Kapaleeshwarar temple in Chennai.
The petition was filed by Rangarajan Narasimhan, who hails from Trichy. In his petition, he had written, “The peacock statue adorning the Siva linga with flowers in the Punnaivannanathar sanctum in Kapaleeshwarar temple was stolen. Instead, the statue that is now there has been designed to look like a snake in a peacock statue. This incident is also against the Agama of the temple.”
This petition was further heard by the Madras High Court. A pleader appeared on behalf of the HR&CE and said that the peacock statue is yet to be found and that investigation is underway for the same.
The judges then said, “Try to find the statue. At the same time the peacock statue that is now present, should be places just like the old one, adorning flowers on the Siva linga. Meanwhile, the delay in the investigation is unacceptable.” The court was then adjourned, keeping the next hearing on the 24th, asking the government to file a report on the current situation.
