Love Jihad Not A Myth; Former Kerala VC Jancy James Shares Statistics On Interfaith Marriages Shows

Love Jihad Not A Myth; Former Kerala VC Jancy James says.

In a video of an undated event circulating widely on social media, Jancy James, the first Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Kerala and UPSC civil service interview board member is seen speaking. Earlier she was the Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala. Mar Andrews Thazhath, the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in Thrissur is also seen in the video.

In the video, James speaks about coming across statistical data on marriage registrations in the state where the majority of men were Muslims, almost all of them school dropouts – educated up to 7th or 8th standard and getting married to girls from either Hindu or Christian community.

Jancy James said, “The other day I came across a statistic – 487 registrations at the registration office for marriages. Of these 487 registrations, most of them are marriages between Muslim boys and girls from Hindu or Christian families. Most of these girls were post-graduates and the boys from the Islamic community were just 8th or 10th pass. We are at a point where data won’t lie. Such invasions are occurring in areas where we do not expect. But we see our family as a place of relief, peace, safety, and happiness.”

This video comes at a time when books proclaiming that Love Jihad is a myth get launched and social media influencers keep peddling the same narrative. It is also noteworthy that only when the Christian community came out acknowledging that Love Jihad actually had been happening, did the country take notice. The Christian community also said that they felt safe living with Hindu neighbours rather than Muslim ones.
