On Saturday, a 25-year-old Libyan called Khairi Saadallah went on a killing spree, as he stabbed three innocent people at a park in the English town of Reading. He was later arrested on Monday after suspicions arose post going through his records. The three victims include a U.S. citizen Joe Ritchie-Bennett, 39, who had lived in Britain for 15 years.
Witnesses claimed that he approached a group of middle-aged men who had been sitting and drinking in the park and suddenly began stabbing at them.
The security source told Reuters that Saadallah had come under the radar of Britain’s domestic security agency MI5 over intelligence about his extremist inclinations, although his plans then came to nothing.
Priti Patel, the Home Secretary for the UK, was reported saying, “The security services have records on thousands of people and rightly so”. She added that only so much information could be revealed at the moment since the investigation was underway.
This incident has been dubbed an act of terrorism by the police soon after nabbing him, saying that he had gone on a rampant stabbing spree at innocent people who had been enjoying a summer day at the park.
