Dravida Kazhagam’s (DK) leader K. Veeramani has condemned the announcement by the Tamil Nadu State Registration Department that the fees for registration on auspicious days are higher than on other days.
Commenting on this, he said, “It is unconstitutional for the Tamil Nadu government to declare that on auspicious days, even if it is a public holiday and a public holiday, superstitious people who believe that if they register on that day, they will earn more and prosper, they can pay extra and register on that day.”
He went on to say, “If it is a holiday for other departments, isn’t it illegal to open the registrar’s office on that day for registration purposes? If this is allowed, then astrology itself will no longer be the dominant astrology. This should be condemned by all those who seek to protect the Constitution. I call upon all the rationalists and secularists, to ask to the Tamil Nadu government to step back from issuing such orders. It is a warning that, if left unchecked, will make the entire country to become a pro-RSS bureaucracy. Let’s stop this before they bring about a full-on Hindutva rule.”
