Netizens woke up to witnessing a barbaric video of a goat getting beheaded on social media platforms.

To “celebrate” the electoral defeat of Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party president K Annamalai, some DMK cadre were seen beheading a goat carrying a picture of Annamalai. The workers “symbolically” slaughtered the goat in broad daylight as a reaction to his recent defeat in the Parliamentary elections in the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency. In the background, children are heard saying, “Annamalai, goat, sacrificial goat”

Annamalai was up against DMK candidate P. Ganapathy Rajkumar, and this was his first time in an MP election. Annamalai had earlier contested in the Aravakurichi constituency in the 2021 Assembly polls.

The fight for the Coimbatore seat was a closely watched and highly anticipated contest, with many locals and people from other states rooting for the BJP president’s victory.

Netizens expressed shock and outrage over the incident. Many have called for swift action against the perpetrators, demanding a thorough investigation and stringent punishment under relevant laws.

Reacting to the video, Annamalai, speaking to the press said, “Bringing a goat to the middle of the road and beheading it in the most barbaric way and posting that video on social media platforms, if you want to behead anything, do it on me! If the DMK cadres are so angry, please leave the voiceless goat, I will be in Coimbatore only, this is my city, I am doing farming in Karur, we have our foundation here, I am a BJP member and everyone knows where I live. If the DMK cadres have such strong anger against me, if they want to touch Annamalai, leave the innocent goat and attack me directly. Doing such a barbaric act in the middle of the road and letting its blood spread on the road, you are taking a video of this act and spreading it on social media. Why do you want to do all this, attack me directly, where am I going to go?”

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, from its top brass to the rank-and-file members, has been persistently mocking Annamalai referring to him as a ‘goat’. In an interview, Annamalai confided that he came from a humble background and grew up rearing goats.

It is noteworthy that before the elections, DMK Minister TRB Rajaa boastfully declared that while they had initially planned to serve biryani in Coimbatore, with Annamalai as the opposing candidate, they would instead serve a delectable goat biryani after securing a resounding victory with a massive margin.

At the time of counting on 4 June 2024, as the results started trickling in, a video of DMK party workers carrying a goat to the party headquarters in Chennai was also making the rounds. Even in this video, the goat was also seen bearing Annamalai’s photo around its neck.

Following the announcement of the results, in Coimbatore, DMK cadres served goat biryani, symbolically presenting two goats for this occasion. A photograph of this event was subsequently posted on their news channel’s social media account.

Several BJP leaders also reacted to the beheading video making the rounds on the internet.
