Koovi comes back home to Pettimudi months after the landslide

Koovi, the dog from Kerala who became famous after pictures of her gazing at the debris covering the family she had lost at the Rajamala landslide is now back home to Pettimudi after she was briefly fostered by the local police.

Koovi made the headlines after the Pettimudi landslide tragedy, as she was photographed sniffing the debris, looking for the family that raised her. Her squeals on being unable to find Dhanushka, the kid whose family she was raised by melted many a heart. She was instrumental in helping recover the body of the kid and many others.

After the bodies were recovered from the landslide, Koovi was taken as a foster pet by Ajith Madhavan, a Kerala State police officer of the dog squad who had fed her in the days following the disaster and fostered her along with his other dogs until recently. A few weeks ago, a relative of Dhanushka offered to take care of Koovi, following which she is now returning back to Pettimudi.

This particular tragedy happened in Pettimudi, which is near Rajamala of Kerala’s Idukki district on 6th August 2020. It took away the lives of 62 people thanks to a landslide that was triggered by heavy rains.
