Koo, the ‘Made in India’ Twitter alternate, has been officially launched in Nigeria after the latter was indefinitely suspended in the west African country.
Aprameya Radhakrishna, Koo’s CEO and co-founder, announced the platform’s availability in Nigeria in a post on Koo on Saturday. He went on to say that they are eager to offer more regional languages for users in the country.
Nigeria’s decision to suspend Twitter in the country was apparently prompted by Twitter’s deletion of a post by President Muhammadu Buhari for violating rules.
In the wake of Twitter’s run-ins with the Indian government, the Bengaluru-based startup has increased its footprint in India as well. Following Twitter’s run-ins with the Indian government, the Bengaluru-based firm has expanded its presence in the country.
In the last six months, the central government has compelled Twitter to remove a large number of tweets and suspend accounts that it believes to be illegal. However, Twitter did not comply with these orders, causing a rift between the two sides. Twitter is yet to comply with the new IT requirements for digital media intermediaries, according to the central government.
Recently, the central government has issued a final warning to Twitter to comply with new IT regulations.
