Police officers in Kerala’s Wayanad district have arrested two Muslim men for taking underage girls to a lodge in Mysuru and sexually abusing them. The accused have been identified as Mohammad Noufal (18) and Kaniampatta Shamim (19) from Kambalakkad.
According to reports, the two minor victims in this case belong to the tribal community. They are reportedly friends of these men. The two young men regularly talked to the girls on the phone and cultivated a relationship with them. As the relationship developed, they took the girls to a lodge in Mysore on New Year’s Eve.
The crime came to light after a parent of the one of the girls filed a missing-persons complaint with the police. The accused have been arrested under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused are to be presented in the POCSO court soon.
