A man dressed as Maveli during an Onam celebration was allegedly assaulted after a minor argument at Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district, Kerala, with a shopkeeper reportedly throwing boiling oil on him, as reported in Asianet Malayalam.
The incident took place on Saturday, the day of Avittam, when Chandrababu, a native of Karunagappally, had gone around the area dressed as Maveli as part of the Onam celebrations.
According to the complaint submitted to the Kayamkulam police, Chandrababu was allegedly attacked by Ashraf, who runs a shop at Pullikkanak. The boiling oil reportedly fell on Chandrababu’s face and hands, leaving him with burn injuries.
Argument Escalated After Tea
Chandrababu reportedly told the police that the incident followed a minor argument while he was leaving the shop after having tea.
The disagreement allegedly escalated, following which Ashraf poured boiling oil towards Chandrababu.
Chandrababu clarified that although the oil was thrown towards him, it did not fall on his head as he was carrying an umbrella at the time, as reported in Kerala Kaumudi. He sustained burns to his face and hands.
He subsequently approached the Kayamkulam police and filed a complaint regarding the incident.
Dispute Settled At Police Station
However, the dispute was later settled after both Chandrababu and Ashraf reached an agreement at the police station.
Chandrababu arrived at the station to give his statement regarding the incident. Ashraf, who was accused of throwing the boiling oil, also appeared before the police.
During their interaction at the station, Ashraf apologised to Chandrababu for his actions. Chandrababu accepted the apology.
The two subsequently submitted a written statement to the police saying that they had reached an agreement and settled the dispute.
Following this, both men left the police station.
