The country’s first ‘digital’ university was launched in Kerala on Sunday. Over the last 20 years, the Kerala state government has facilitated the opening of several universities like the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IITMK) and the Kerala Management University.

This institute has now been upgraded to the Kerala Digital Science, Innovation, and Technology University. It is the first digital university in the country to be launched by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan via video conference yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said, “The university has been started with the aim of making a difference in the lives of the people by using new technologies.”

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, “With the launch of the country’s first digital university, new jobs will be available for the youth. The government is taking steps to increase the use of technology in various sectors of the society.”

According to official sources, the Digital University is set up by upgrading the two-decades-old Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Kerala (IIITM-K), a centre of excellence in information technologies established by the Government of Kerala.
