In clear violation of COVID protocol, a COVID victim’s body was taken to a mosque and bathed by relatives in Thrissur in Kerala on Monday (10 May).
The body of the deceased was taken to her native place in Maravoor. Khadeeja succumbed to Covid-19 on Sunday and her relatives then took her body to the mosque near Sakthan bus stand in Thrissur.
Authorities at the hospital had released Khadeeja’s body so they could conduct the funeral and the body was wrapped as per the Covid protocol. However, in keeping with the Islamic tradition of bathing the dead body, the relatives took the body to the mosque and washed it. Now all of them face the risk of getting infected.
After the district administration found out that the relatives had violated Covid protocols, action against the relatives and mosque authorities were taken.
The health department in that area has also seized the ambulance which took the body to the mosque because as per the guidelines issued by the state government no one, not even relatives are allowed to touch, wash, hug or kiss the dead body.
