Following the change of government in Karnataka, Nuthana Kumari, the wife of the deceased Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Praveen Nettaru, has lost her temporary job at the deputy commissioner’s office in Mangaluru. The job was granted to her on compassionate grounds.
Sources have reported that an order has been issued to relieve Kumari from her position. She was initially appointed on a contractual basis after her husband, Praveen Nettaru, was allegedly killed by members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) in July of the previous year. The appointment was made as a humanitarian gesture based on the request of BJP state president and Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel.
The BJP government had previously issued an order on September 22, 2022, appointing Kumari as a senior assistant (Group C) at the office of the then Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai. Later, upon Kumari’s request, she was transferred to the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner’s office and began her duties on October 14 of the same year.
The appointment order explicitly stated that she would remain in service until the present chief minister is in office or until further instructions are given.
The Congress party is being accused of seeking retribution against a widow and her bereaved family, allegedly as a result of Muslim consolidation that accounted for 88% of the support received by the party in the Karnataka polls.
