Karaikudi Woman Cop Injured And Hospitalized Following Alleged Attack By VCK Functionaries At Police Station

A controversy has erupted following a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Pranitha, who accused members of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) of attacking her at the Somanathapuram Police Station in Karaikudi.

Reports indicate that the altercation began over a dispute related to construction work on temple land. When VCK North District Secretary Ilaya Gowthaman, along with a group of party members, inquired about the complaint, SI Pranitha, who had recently been transferred to another station, reportedly informed them that she cannot help with the case and advised them to consult higher authorities. However, the party members were displeased, claiming that the police were not taking action in their favor. This sparked a heated exchange.

It is alleged that during the argument, Pranitha was attacked by the VCK functionaries and collapsed. Her supporters claim that the attack led to her injuries. She was subsequently taken to the Karaikudi Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. In response to the incident, SI Pranitha has filed a case against the VCK functionary, and an investigation is currently underway. The matter, involving the VCK functionary allegedly entering the police station and attacking the female officer, has stirred significant controversy.

Speaking to the press, the mother of the female police officer claimed that the alleged attack was a premeditated act of revenge orchestrated by VCK goons. She said, “Today, my daughter was relieved from the Amaravati station and was about to join the police in Sivaganga the next day. When she was about to leave the petitioner came for questioning, she said that the DSP has called me and you may further inquire there. However, upon learning about her leaving, a group of ten individuals, including Ilaya Gautama, Kannan, and Manokar together with a gang of ten reportedly surrounded the my child allegedly threatened her, saying, ‘I will see how you leave this place, just like SI Karpagam’s transfer, I’ll drive you away,’ made disrespectful remarks, stating, ‘I’ll tear your shirt and stars.’ They have pulled her shirt, scratched her hands and harassed my child in the station. I found out about the incident at the station and rushed to take her to a clinic nearby. She was struggling to breathe. The doctor gave her some pills and hot water, which helped her regain some breath. I immediately took her to the hospital, and on the way, I found out that her hand had been injured during the assault, with blood oozing from the wound which she was unaware off. I quickly admitted her to the Government Hospital.”
