DMK stooge, Rajya Sabha MP and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, responded to growing criticism over his decision to ally with the DMK, months after attacking the party during the election campaign. Talk about his earlier campaign video, where he threw a TV remote to symbolically reject political propaganda, has resurfaced online, prompting questions about his political shift.

Addressing the controversy, Kamal Haasan said the alliance was a conscious decision made to protect Tamil Nadu’s autonomy and prevent the rise of what he described as “fascism.”

Speaking at an event, he said, “When the time comes, we should stand together. They ask me why I joined the DMK, wasn’t I the one who threw the remote control at the television? Why did you go back there again, they ask. Yes, I threw the remote.”

Kamal Haasan buttressed saying that his political stance had evolved based on the larger interests of the State.

He added, “That’s what I said, in a democracy, the right to criticize exists, so I threw it. But someone else picked up the remote and ran off with it! Ah, the remote is going there! The remote should stay within the state. We want Education itself to be with the state, will we give up the remote? Bring it back. It’s okay we’ll keep it hidden. We shouldn’t fight with each other over it. Going forward, whoever picks it up and leaves — so be it.”

He further said, “If you can understand the alliance, good. Otherwise, stay quiet. In a real democracy, these kinds of problems will always be there. If you want them gone, then an alternative politics would be fascism, and we don’t want that. The message I’ve given today is enough for this politics. For others, the message of love we shared here is apparently not enough, for some, never enough. We’ll continue talking about this. What needed to be said to you has been said.”

Kamal Haasan continues to face criticism from political opponents and sections of social media who accuse him of contradicting his earlier stand against the DMK.

After speaking against the DMK and its kind of politics, Kamal Haasan joined hands with the same party and secured a Rajya Sabha seat.
