“Is Annamalai An Economist?” Asks DMK Min Duraimurugan, “Yes I’ve Done MBA Finance, I Know Better Finance Than Him” BJP TN Head Gives Befitting Reply

Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the renovation of the Pandian Maduvu canal rehabilitation program in Katpadi, Vellore district. During a subsequent interaction with reporters, Durai Murugan was questioned about the statement made by Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai during his “En Mann En Makkal” yatra on 3 Febuary 2024, in KV Kuppam, Vellore, where he asserted that Tamil Nadu is currently becoming an economically backward state.

Reporters, looking for a response for this statement queried Durai Murugan on it. Durai Murugan, in a dismissive tone, questioned, “Who said?” When informed that Annamalai made the claim, Durai Murugan further inquired, “Is he an economist?” He went on to counter Annamalai’s assertion, stating that reputed economists have certified the state’s progress. Durai Murugan also dismissed such statements as typical of opposition parties, emphasizing that the state has received praise even from international quarters.

Following this, reporters questioned Annamalai on the statement made by Durai Murugan questioning if he were an economist. Responding to this during his interaction with reporters, Annamalai said, “Yes, I have studied MBA Finance at IIM Lucknow. In the CAT exam where 10 lakh people compete and write, I have scored 99.4 percentile and cleared it, I know a little bit about finance, I know a lot more about finance than Durai Murugan does, maybe when compared to others, I am less familiar about the subject. I know how to read a statement, how to read budgetary documents, what fiscal deficit is, I know where the state is headed. Durai Murugan may have not studied but tell him not to run the story to me.”

This response from Annamalai elicited reactions from netizens mocking and making fun of Durai Murugan’s reaction to the words said by Annamalai. Here are a few of those reactions.

Following this on 5 Febuary 2024, Durai Murugan attended a corporation review meeting at Vellore. Upon its conclusion, he swiftly headed towards his car skipping the customary update to news reporters. As he entered his car, a reporter from Polimer News channel asked him about the important decisions taken during the corporation review meeting.

In response, a frustrated Durai Murugan stated, “Do not expect anything from me. You will ask me something, and twist it differently. Look for someone else for that, I’m speaking to you out of trust but you caption it differently. nothing happened there, everything ended well.”
