
A veterans felicitation ceremony was organised at Four Points by Sheraton in Mahabalipuram on Wednesday evening by industrialist Sabapathi and his family on behalf of Deepika Built Tech Engineering Group, ahead of the upcoming wedding of his son ShivAdhitya with S. Radhika.
According to organisers, the event was conceived as a gesture of gratitude to members of the armed forces and veterans who have served the nation. The felicitation was held as part of the pre-wedding celebrations, with the family stating that the occasion was intended to recognise the contributions and sacrifices of service personnel.
The gathering was attended by several retired officers and officials from the armed forces and civil administration. Among those present were former Additional Director General of the Indian Coast Guard K.R. Suresh, Air Vice Marshal K. Sridharan of the Indian Air Force, Colonel P. Ganesan of the Indian Army, Wing Commander V.R. Srikanth of the Indian Air Force, Lieutenant Commander D. Kuzhali Vidhya of the Indian Navy, and Major Madhan Kumar of the Indian Army. Also in attendance were retired Deputy Commissioners Mukesh Ji and Rethinvel, along with Honorary Captains Thirumal, G. Selvaraj, and A. Chandrasekharan, among other veterans from different services.

During the programme, speakers highlighted the role of the armed forces in safeguarding the country and emphasised the importance of recognising the service and sacrifices of veterans. Vijayalakshmi of Karamadai, who delivered the opening address, stated that national security and prosperity depend on the sacrifices of soldiers. Major Madhan Kumar also addressed the gathering, noting that soldiers ensure the continued existence of the state while citizens contribute to its development.
Organisers said the event was coordinated with the assistance of Major Madhan Kumar, a veteran of the Indian Army, and Sergeant R. Suresh Babu, a veteran of the Indian Air Force based in Chennai. Veterans attending the function were presented with mementoes as a token of appreciation for their service.
Participants at the event described the initiative as an effort to link personal celebrations with public recognition of military service, highlighting the role of civil society in honouring veterans.
