Indian and Chinese soldiers exchange blows along border in Sikkim; several injured

An aggressive confrontation occurred between Indian and Chinese troops along the border in Sikkim’s Naku La sector, at an altitude of more than 5000 metres. Four Indian soldiers and seven Chinese soldiers were injured in the stand-off as they exchanged blows. Stand-offs like this typically involve pushing and shoving, and sometimes escalate into stone-throwing and brawls.

Around 150 soldiers were involved in the incident that occurred on Sunday morning. The stand-off was later resolved after a dialogue at the local level. The cause of the altercation between the soldiers was the undefined border issue between the two countries.

The stand-off came a day after Nepal had raised concerns over India constructing a link road along the Indo-Nepal border. India, meanwhile, has dismissed Nepal’s claims.
