India became a founding member of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI or Gee Pay) on June 15 along with some other members like the UK, US, European Union, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Slovenia and Singapore. Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister, took to Twitter to announce the same.

The secretariat of GPAI will be located at the headquarters of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris.
These countries, along with India, have taken initiative to promote responsible and human centric development of Artificial Intelligence.
GPAI seeks to bring leading experts from industry, academia, civil society and government to collaborate and promote responsible evolution of AI and also make use of AI to tackle the current COVID19 crisis.
The Government of India stated that “By joining GPAI as a founding member, India will actively participate in the global development of Artificial Intelligence, leveraging its experience around the use of digital technologies for inclusive growth.”
