The newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously passed a resolution endorsing Narendra Modi as their parliamentary party leader and also as the Prime Minister during a high-profile meeting held at the Parliament Central Hall on 7 June 2024.
While addressing the alliance partners and the newly elected lawmakers, Narendra Modi made a special mention of the BJP’s and NDA’s improved performance in the South Indian states, including Tamil Nadu, during the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Specifically referring to Tamil Nadu, Narendra Modi expressed his appreciation for the NDA’s efforts in the state, saying, “I would like to congratulate the team of Tamil Nadu. Many NDA leaders in Tamil Nadu did not have any candidate of their own but to keep this flag flying high, they gave it their all. Although we couldn’t win seats in Tamil Nadu, the rapid rise in the NDA’s vote share in the state clearly indicates what we can expect to see in the future.”

Despite not securing any parliamentary seats in Tamil Nadu, the BJP-led NDA witnessed a rise in its vote share to about 18.27% and BJP on its own grew to over 11%. Modi acknowledged this as a promising sign for the future. This surge in support from the people of Tamil Nadu is seen as a positive development for the NDA’s political aspirations in the state.
