Ilaiyaraaja Sends Legal Notice to Sun Pictures For Unauthorized Use Of His Music In Trailer Of Rajini’s Next Film Coolie

Ilaiyaraaja has issued a copyright notice to the creators of ‘Coolie’ for utilizing his music without authorization, insisting on proper clearance or removal. He has accused director Lokesh Kanagaraj of recurrent copyright infringement, warning of potential legal consequences.

The renowned music composer, Ilaiyaraaja, has taken legal action against the makers Sun Pictures for their film ‘Coolie’ unauthorized use of his musical work in the film’s teaser. Specifically, the teaser featured a rendition of his song ‘Va va pakkam va‘ from ‘Thangamagan’, re-mixed as “Disco” for Coolie composed by Anirudh Ravichander revealed in the teaser.

In the copyright notice served to the Sun Pictures, was emphasized that formal permission had not been sought from Ilaiyaraaja, who is the rightful owner of the song and its music utilized in the teaser. This action has been deemed a violation under the Copyright Act of 1957. Notably, director Lokesh Kanagaraj has been singled out in the complaint, with previous instances cited where he allegedly used Ilaiyaraaja’s compositions without consent, such as in the movie ‘Vikram’ and the song “En Jodi Manja Kuruvi” from the production venture ‘Fight Club’.

Ilaiyaraaja’s notice demands that the ‘Coolie’ creators either secure proper authorization for the usage of ‘Va Va Pakkam Va’ or remove the music from the teaser. Failure to comply may result in legal repercussions, as indicated in the notice.
