Hyderabad police apprehended the president of a non-governmental organization (NGO) after a woman YouTuber reportedly attempted suicide as a result of the man’s defamatory remarks against her.

Syed Saleem, a resident of Hyderabad’s Hafeez Baba Nagar and the president of an NGO, is accused of making derogatory remarks about a woman who is a YouTuber and runs the Khidmat e- Khalq Charitable Trust on Facebook.

In a video, the woman Youtuber said that she was ending her life due to harassment by the accused. According to police, she allegedly tried to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills.

Rudra Bhaskar, SHO of Chandrayangutta police station, said,” Saleem did a live broadcast on his Facebook page and made defamatory and derogatory comments against the woman. Due to this, the woman reportedly tried to end her life by consuming some sleeping pills.”

Saleem has been charged by the police under Sections 354, 294 of the IPC, as well as various sections of the IT Act. He was arrested from his house by a police team early on Sunday.

Mild tension prevailed near the house of Saleem at Dabeerpura when few persons gathered while the police team went to his house to arrest him. The mob shouted abusive words and the police dispersed them. A similar scene prevailed near the Chandrayangutta police station when he was brought to the police station.

Meanwhile, Amjedullah Khan Khalid, the head of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), alleges that Saleem was detained under the pressure from Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM). The MBT leader questioned the police’s haste in acting without first learning when and where the lady attempted suicide.
