AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Tuesday launched a fierce attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, labelling him a “puppet CM” over the alleged sexual assault of a woman by police personnel in Tiruvannamalai.
The AIADMK leader strongly condemned the alleged incident where two police officers—Sub-Inspector Suresh Raj and Constable Sundar attached to the East Police Station in the Thoppu area of Tiruvannamalai Outer Ring Road—were accused of brutally sexually assaulting a young woman in front of her sister.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Palaniswami expressed shock over the incident, calling it “the horrific pinnacle of the deplorable state of women’s security” in the state.
“The news that police officers Suresh Raj and Sundar from the East Police Station in the Thoppu area of Tiruvannamalai Outer Ring Road brutally subjected a young woman to sexual assault in front of her sister is deeply shocking,” EPS wrote.
Demanding an immediate response from the Chief Minister, he questioned: “What response does this puppet Chief Minister have for the atrocity inflicted on a woman by the very police officers who are supposed to ensure women’s safety?”
The opposition leader condemned what he termed the “Stalin-model” of governance, asserting that the ruling DMK government has created a situation where women must protect themselves from the police instead of being protected by them.
“The DMK government of this puppet Chief Minister must hang its head in shame for this disgraceful situation,” Palaniswami stated. “I strongly condemn the Stalin-model DMK government for pushing women into a position where they must protect themselves from the very police department that is supposed to be their shield.”
Emphasizing the need for immediate action, the AIADMK general secretary urged the state government to ensure proper medical treatment for the survivor, who has been admitted to hospital, and called for stringent legal action against the accused officers.
“I urge the Stalin-model DMK government to ensure proper medical treatment for the woman admitted to the hospital and to take stringent legal action against the police officers who have turned into predators,” EPS wrote.
