Shankar, an office bearer with the DMK students’ wing, who is also a hockey coach at the Chettinad Women’s Hockey Club has been accused of sexual harassment by two school girls training under him.
Shankar belonging to Pallathur village, is the DMK Student Wing Organizer of Sakkottai west and has been a hockey coach at the club.
The Chettinad Women’s Hockey Club in Karaikudi, Sivagangai District offers free training to school girls interested in hockey.
Two sisters from Vadapatti village in Madurai have been undergoing training at the club with Shankar as their coach.
They had complained to the school principal that Shankar had repeatedly called them to rooms, sexually harassed and even threatened to kill them if they spoke about it to anyone.
The school principal later informed the parents about this.
Based on the complaints lodged by the girls’ parents, the Karaikudi All Women Police Station Inspector Devaki arrested the DMK office bearer and his assistant Kannan under the POCSO Act.
Earlier, son of a DMK office bearer in Mayiladuthurai was arrested for creating ruckus at a hotel and for attempting to stab a staff after he and his friends were told that there was no Oothappam available at the hotel.
