The Hindu Munnani has raised concerns over what it claims are two recent cases of suspected “love jihad” in Tamil Nadu, pointing to the deaths of two Hindu men under troubling circumstances. In both incidents, the organization alleges a pattern of religious targeting and has called for thorough investigations.
Case 1: Murder of Court Employee in Tiruvarur
In the Pandugudi area of Tiruvarur district, a violent confrontation over an alleged love affair led to the death of a court employee. The deceased, 27-year-old Santosh Kumar from Dhyanapuram, was an office assistant at the Thiruvarur District Court. He had reportedly intervened in a heated altercation involving a Hindu woman and a group of Muslim men attempting to rekindle a failed relationship.
According to local reports, Mohammed Adam (25), along with his friends Haji Mohammed (23) and Mohammed Rasuldeen (21), visited the home of Soumya, a 22-year-old college student from Gandhinagar, after she had stopped responding to Adam’s calls. An argument broke out between the woman’s younger brother, Gopikrishnan (19), and the group. When bystanders, including Santosh Kumar and Dakshinamoorthy (35), tried to defuse the situation, Mohammed Adam allegedly pulled out a hidden knife and attacked both men.
Santosh Kumar later succumbed to his injuries at Thiruvarur Government Hospital, while Dakshinamoorthy remains hospitalized. The Thiruvarur police have arrested Rasooldeen and Haji Mohammed and are actively searching for Adam, who remains absconding.
Case 2: Death of Youth in Kulasekaram, Kanyakumari District
In a separate incident, 22-year-old Dhanush, a resident of Cheruppaloor Kavu Vilai Colony in Kanyakumari district, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on 19 June 2025. His body was discovered hanging inside the residence of a Muslim woman he had reportedly been in a long-term relationship with.
Following a complaint by his father, Duraisamy, the Kulasekaram police registered a case of unnatural death. According to official statements, the couple had been in a relationship for several years, but the woman had recently ended it. Preliminary police findings suggest Dhanush was emotionally affected by the breakup and had attempted reconciliation shortly before his death.
A post-mortem conducted at Asaripallam Medical College on June 20 did not indicate any signs of foul play. The police have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims while investigations continue.
