Hindu Munnani Condemns DMK Leader’s Son For Assaulting Differently-Abled Man At Pozhichalur Temple

A disturbing incident occurred at the Agatheeswarar Temple in Pozhichalur, near Pallavaram, when Dinesh Babu, the son of the Pozhichalur Panchayat Council president, allegedly assaulted a differently abled man. The assault, captured on CCTV, has sparked outrage after the footage went viral on social media.

Saravanan, a 35-year-old differently abled man, was visiting the temple when a verbal dispute with Dinesh Babu escalated into physical violence. Dinesh Babu, accompanied by a friend, allegedly attacked Saravanan, who defended himself by striking Dinesh Babu with his crutch. Both men were injured during the altercation. The incident, which stunned onlookers, was reported to the Shankarnagar police, who arrested Dinesh Babu’s friend while continuing to search for Dinesh Babu, who fled the scene. Authorities have revealed that Dinesh Babu has a criminal history, with multiple pending cases.

The Agatheeswarar Temple, a historic site, has been managed by the Hindu Religious Endowment Department since last year, following its previous private management. Recently, a dispute has emerged between local groups over donations made by devotees, including money, oil, and coconuts. The conflict is believed to have contributed to the violence at the temple. Local residents are urging greater government oversight to prevent further incidents.

Condemnation by Hindu Munnani

The Hindu Munnani has condemned the assault, criticizing Dinesh Babu for using caste-based insults and violence against the differently-abled man. They condemned the DMK leadership for failing to uphold its ideals of equality and justice, highlighting the contradiction of a ruling party member engaging in such behavior. The organization demanded accountability, emphasizing that the incident exemplifies the failure of the DMK’s social justice policies.

In response, the Hindu Munnani warned that the DMK’s promises of equality would be meaningless unless the party took responsibility for such actions and ensured justice for the victim. The group also expressed disappointment in the lack of decisive action from the party’s leadership regarding issues of caste-based violence.
