Hindu girl who converted to Islam for marriage commits suicide, parents allege murder

In the Southern state of Telangana, a Hindu girl named Sravanti who had converted her to Islam to marry her Muslim boyfriend in the Kammareddy district committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling of her house on May 24. Her marriage had happened just a few months ago.

Sravanti, a 19-year-old was a resident of Indira Nagar Colony in Kamareddy district. She had married Salman on January 7, 2021, and changed her religion to Islam.

As per reports filed by News18 Telugu, Sravanti, after her conversion to Islam had changed her name to Sheikh Samira to marry Salman.

Two months after marriage, the couple moved to a different place and on 24 May Sheikh Sameera committed suicide by hanging herself at her home. But her relatives think their daughter had injuries on her neck and have alleged that she was beaten to death and demanded strict action against Salman and his family for mentally harassing and physically torturing their daughter.

The family of the deceased girl suspects foul play in the incident and demanded that Salman, his aunt, and uncle be arrested for the murder of their daughter.

As of now the Devunipalli police have registered a case and are investigating the alleged love-Jihad incident.
