Guruvayur Municipality Issues Notice To Shut Down Abdul Hakeem’s National Paradise Restaurant Over Tulsi Plant Desecration Incident

The Guruvayur Municipality has issued a notice to permanently close the National Paradise Restaurant following a widely condemned incident involving its owner, Abdul Hakeem. The closure comes after CCTV footage surfaced showing Hakeem allegedly desecrating a sacred Tulsi altar near the Guruvayur Temple. The footage, which went viral on social media, sparked outrage across the Hindu community.

In the video, Hakeem is allegedly seen plucking pubic hair and throwing it on the Tulsi plant, an act deeply offensive to Hindu religious sentiments. The incident led to widespread protests, with the Hindu Aikya Vedi filing a formal complaint that prompted Hakeem’s arrest.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindu organizations subsequently performed a purification ritual to restore the sanctity of the altar.

This is not the first controversy involving Hakeem or his establishment. In 2017, health inspectors seized stale and spoiled food from the National Paradise Restaurant, which was the third such raid on the premises. Allegations of political intervention had reportedly suppressed earlier complaints. Additionally, Hakeem has faced accusations of pelting stones at buses carrying Ayyappa devotees and allegedly installing hidden cameras in the restaurant’s restrooms.

The Thrissur City Police, in a Facebook post, claimed Hakeem has been undergoing treatment for a mental disability for 25 years. They threatened against sharing the viral video, stating that fostering social unrest through such posts would result in strict legal action.

The municipality’s decisive action to shut down the restaurant has been hailed as a victory for justice by the local community.
