Government schools get a revamp thanks to teachers group

Pattampoochigal (meaning butterflies), a teachers group operating in Tiruppur, Erode and Nilgiri districts, is winning praise for their initiative to decorate barren walls of government schools with illustrations of popular cartoon characters free of cost. This initiative was carried out in an effort to drive students towards these schools in the post Coronavirus era.

They had carried out this activity for 7 schools, where the lockdown was considerably relaxed. Talking about this in a press statement, A. Santhosh Kumar, the deputy coordinator of this NGO, and a teacher at one of the primary schools that comes under this group, said that they have been operating for 4 years now and that they paint characters from animation shows and informative slogans taking a two-day span.

This activity is carried out by painting a base coat initially and then painting the illustrations. The only charges that are borne by the school correspond to the cost of the base coat paint.

This group usually does the painting during the weekend but after the coronavirus lockdown, they have resorted to using the weekdays. A lot of schools have reported having noticed an increase in admissions following this initiative.
