Google has announced that it will pay news publishers for their news content through a licensing programme in Australia, Brazil and Germany.
Google’s Vice President of product management said in a blogpost that this program will help these news portals to “monetize their content through an enhanced storytelling experience”. The search engine giant would be offering this through the Google News and Discoveries services. It said that the company will also pay for users to access pay walled articles.
Google has been having talks with major media publishers across the globe to offer payment free news service access in three countries. This has come as a result of a long drawn quarrel with media houses in Australia and France over Google’s refusal to pay for their news content.
Google recently released a statement on their blog which said that it would be having a licensing program that would potentially pay publishers for their high quality content so as to enhance the user experience of the users. Brad Bender, said that they had been in discussions with the Spiegel group in Germany as well as Schwartz media from Australia and Brazil’s Diarios Associados regarding the same.
It is to be noted that a number of global publications as well as European companies have requested the European Union to adopt stricter laws that it could potentially charge internet companies for the content they produce.
