Google launches app for entry-level jobseekers in India

Google has launched Kormo, an app that helps people in India find entry-level jobs. This initiative looks to offer a helping hand to millions looking for entry-level roles and further displace Microsoft’s LinkedIn relevance in the world’s second-largest internet market.

This app was first launched in Bangladesh in 2018 and was expanded to Indonesia in 2019. It was made available in India under the brand ‘Jobs’ on Google Pay app. Ever since then a lot of Indian companies like Zomato and dunzo have been posting hundreds of jobs on it every day. Following that, Google has now rebranded it as Kormo jobs and has launched it in India.  In addition to serving as a job-finding app, it also helps job-seekers hone the necessary skills and easily create and update their resumes using their built-in resume builder.

Bickey Russell, Regional Manager and Operations Lead at Kormo Jobs, said the company will continue to invest in bringing new features and jobs to the app in the future. “In the wake of the pandemic, the jobs landscape stands altered, with demand shifting to new services that require different sets of skills and experience. Businesses of all sizes face the challenges of the new normal, while job seekers are having to adapt to this shift quickly,” wrote Russell in a blog.

This is being seen as a part of the Google for India venture that was launched by Prime Minister Modi and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai earlier this year.
