The Karbi Anglong Police (Assam) arrested a gang of vehicle lifters and seized a total of six vehicles that were stolen within a week. The arrest was led by Jitumoni Deka, Officer In-charge.
On June 2, 2020, a nabbing incident took place which was followed by stealing a dumper truck. The Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong, Debojit Deori stated that this occurred during a routine check at Manja police checkpoint.
The SP informed that it was Ajay Biswas, who had stolen the dumper truck and later handed it to Prasant Singh who was reportedly the main culprit with respect to the crime. Upon further interrogation, the police became aware of other vehicle lifters operating in Guwahati.
Ajay Biswas had led the police force to Rajiv Kumar Singh, another identified to be involved in the crime.
Rajiv Kumar Singh and Prashant Singh were arrested near Pratiksha Hospital. A Royal Enfield motorcycle was seized from Prashant’s possession and two cars, a Bolero and i20 Hyundai car were seized from Rajiv.
After interrogating Rajiv Kumar Singh, they arrested two more persons involved in the crime. The accused has been identified as Abdul Banik from Goalpara district and Ajay Biswas of Jail Road, Shillong.
The SP also informed that arrested persons have been brought to Manja Police Station in Assam along with all the vehicles that were stolen.
